Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
The basic business idea of our company is to offer the tourist a range of products which are in concordance with Finnish nature. The products are specially designed to fuse into a harmonious whole with nature, special attention being paid to the immediate environment in which the activities take place. We don’t organize any motorized activities, however car transfers are needed to transport participants to the starting point of the trip. We always organize single-timed groups transfers from the nearest airport or bus station. On this tour a car transfer is needed to get to the remote starting point. We use a minibus that is ideal for a group of 6 persons and a guide. During the adventure no transfers are needed, we will only move from place to place skiing which is an eco-friendly way of traveling.
We minimise the volume of waste by avoiding the use of unnecessary packaging material. Disposable plates, cups or cutlery are not used. Easily decomposing garbage, such as coffee grounds and used tea bags, are composted or disposed of by means of "distributed composting". All other waste is carried back from the tour or trip. Back at the base, the waste is classified and recycled.
People
All our operations are based on the co-operation of a local partner network. We benefit local economies by using small, mostly family-owned accommodations, restaurants, transportation companies, etc that are operating on the remote countryside. Eg. on this tour the first and last night are stayed in a guest house that is a small family run company located practically ”in the middle of nowwhere”. Also local guides are employed whenever possible. We make sure our partner companies and staff get paid fairly. As a partner we are flexible and we adhere by our contracts.Picnic lunches around open fires are an essential part of our tours. We only use official fire places maintained by Metsähallitus (Finnish forest and park services) to whom we pay a set fee per participant.
The money is used to maintain the services in Finnish national parks and other hiking areas.
In our purchases, we are committed to preferring locally produced, high-quality products. Disposable products are avoided as far as possible. We also use to repair things before throw them away. In fact very little is thrown away and only when something can’t really be used anymore. Skis, snowshoes, winter boots etc that are removed from clients’ use are sold at a flea market. Regarding food (picnics) Finnish products are always a primary choice and we only purchase Finnish meat, milk products and bread.
