Carbon Reduction

Vegetarian and vegan food can be included on this trip, we simply need to know at time of booking, and we can ensure our customers are catered for. We use Mountain Lodges Nepal for all accommodation during the trekking portion of this trip and many meals are included at the lodges. These lodges operate a farm-to-table concept, sourcing most ingredients from their own garden or from nearby areas through partnerships with local farmers to ensure that the produce is fresh, free of harmful chemicals, and contributes to supporting the local economy. Such acts of sourcing locally have help reduce their carbon footprint significantly.

Our new 8% carbon intensity reduction target by 2030 covers the full lifecycle of travel – including flights booked directly by customers to get to and from their trips. This means by 2030, the average emissions per trip will be 8% lower than today. This approach centers on immediate, operational emission reductions — prioritising tangible, internal changes over distant ambitions.

Environment and Wildlife

In Nepal, we support the organisation Sagarmatha Next though our foundation. Himalayan Museum and Sustainable Parks has set up Sagarmatha Next to support local communities to create and implement a sustainable waste handling system. At Sagarmatha, they not only collect and remove waste from the region and transport it to facilities where appropriate recycling can take place but also turn waste into art. Their Carry Me Back initiative encourages travelers to carry a bag with waste materials back to Lukla for further transportation to Kathmandu for recycling. Waste management is a serious issue, and we ensure we leave no rubbish behind while trekking, all our customers are briefed on this at the beginning of the trip.

We use accommodation operated by Mountain Lodges Nepal throughout the trekking portion of this trip. They were selected for their amazing hospitality, and shared commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable community development. MLN work in collaboration with Evergreen Nepal, who are working to regenerate woodland by planting 100,000 fruit trees in Nepal, which will absorb up to 50,000 tons of CO2 gases during their lifespan.

People

Local Economy

We include many local experiences, activities and meals all supplied by the local communities we visit. From day 1, our groups enjoy an authentic Nepali dinner of traditional thali with delicious momos in Kathmandu. In Dhampus, we include 'a day in the life of' moment, where our groups visit a typical Gurung village nearby to learn about their lifestyle and of course enjoy a home-cooked lunch with the villagers themselves. We visit Ghandruk and meet some of the villagers who reside here, and gain insight into Gurung customs, lifestyle and their remarkable contributions to the Gorkha Army. All these activities directly support the local economy and communities we visit.

We use locally owned accommodation wherever possible and stay in the center of the rural communities we visit.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity

In addition to our local tour leader, we hire the services of local porters and guides throughout this trip, the enables us to support the local communities through employment.
