CARBON REDUCTION

Kenya is a huge country and wherever it is safe to do so, we travel by car. However, in some cases flying is the only option. Many of the internal flights are on small Cessna Caravans.
Most camps in the Kenyan bush use solar power.
Vegetarian and vegan food is available.
Many camps try to grow their own vegetables where climate and local weather conditions allow.
At Sabache Eco Camp, women from the community grow organic fruits, vegetables and herbs using purified, grey recycled water to sell back to the camp. Surplus foods are distributed to families, school meal programmes, and for emergency food distribution programmes during drought.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Elephant Bedroom Camp is in the Samburu National Reserve and entry fees are payable.
Conservation fees are also payable at Sabache Eco Camp.
All guides are local.
We use our own driver/guide who is a KPSGA Bronze level Guide (Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association) for all transfers, and for guiding in the Samburu National Reserve.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Sabache is 100% owned and operated by the local indigenous Samburu community. It is a pioneer in sustainable community-based ecotourism and is committed to environmentally sound practices. By staying at Sabache, guests support conservation of the African wilderness and provide direct employment and income to more than 145 families in the area.
Elephant Bedroom Camp in the Samburu strongly believes in interaction with the local communities and undertakes many projects to benefit them, whilst also ensuring that a good number of their staff are employed from these local communities.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Everyone employed at the camps, lodges and hotels we use are Kenyan citizens.
My guides are from Nanyuki where our company is based.
All the camps in the bush use local people from the community, as mentioned above.
