Planet
Our small ships run on Marine Diesel Oil, unlike larger ships that use non refined Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) which is non-refined, polluting and highly toxic. Additionally, Regular maintenance for each ship of our fleet takes place twice a year, a practice that is extremely important in reducing fuel consumption.Single-Use Plastic Reduction: One of our guiding principles is to positively impact the areas in which we explore. That is why we are proud to have successfully completed a single-use plastic reduction program across our entire fleet, minimizing single-use plastic items. Such items include straws, stirrers, cups, lids, bottled water, among other items, as well as items wrapped in plastic; single-portion items such as butter cups, jams or yogurts. Our goal is to completely eliminate single-use plastics on board all our vessels.. Our hope is that our actions will prompt other cruise operators to do the same.
Carbon Deduction
We are the first cruise line to sign up to the Tourism Declares Climate Emergency initiative, which exists to enable everyone in tourism to implement the Climate Action Plans needed to halve sector emissions by 2030.
We plan our itineraries to ensure that our passengers have more time on shore than at sea, minimising our sailing times.
Environment and Wildlife
We host less than 100 passengers, our tour guides and on board experts are recruited locally and the experiences we offer reflect cultural and ecological sustainability and inclusiveness - a company priority- with sails that are in-depth and community driven leaving minimal footprint behind.
People
5 euros from each booking is designated to the 'Variety Cares' foundation which supports initiatives striving for clean oceans, gender equality, and education for all, creating a better world at sea one cruise at a time. Projects supported by Variety Cares include beach clean ups, investments in local schools and charities, arts festivals and more. Our guiding principle is to 'Create a Better World at Sea', which means looking to deviate away from areas of over tourism. Our cruise itineraries take us to small islands which are not often visited by large cruise ships, and are designed to have minimal impact on local societies and ecosystems, without compromising our product quality or the guest experience.
Our dedicated crew source goods locally for use on board, having the dual impact of both an authentic experience for our guests, and supporting the local economy of the islands we visit.
The Ionian Island are well known for their pure olive oil, the figs, organic thyme honey with its aromatic taste, found on all the islands and can be bought in all shops , the unique liqueur, and lastly the local wines which differ from island to island but all mainly using the native grape varieties; Kakotrygis, Vertzami and Robola, all helping the local economy.
