Carbon Reduction

The accommodations actively reduce their carbon footprint through energy-efficient practices, including solar lighting in common areas, limited generator use, water-saving systems, and responsible waste management. Many lodges are eco-focused and designed to blend with the natural environment while minimizing energy consumption. Participants travel together in shared safari vehicles throughout the itinerary, including transfers between Kibale National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park. This significantly reduces CO2 emissions per person compared to individual transport and limits unnecessary vehicle movements within protected areas.

We advise customers on ways to reduce the carbon impact of their vacation by encouraging light packing, the use of reusable water bottles, respectful use of resources, and adherence to park guidelines that protect wildlife and habitats. Pre-departure information also highlights responsible travel practices. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available every day of the trip. Most food served during the safari is locally sourced and seasonal, supporting local farmers and reducing food transportation emissions. Lodges and camps follow food-waste reduction practices, including careful meal planning, portion control, and composting where facilities allow.

Environmental & Wildlife

This itinerary highlights Uganda’s rich environmental and wildlife heritage, combining cultural landscapes with immersive conservation and safari experiences. From exploring Kampala’s historic sites and vibrant markets to hands-on wildlife conservation work alongside rangers at the ranch, participants gain a deeper understanding of the link between people and nature. In Murchison Falls National Park, game drives offer opportunities to observe elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalo, and diverse antelope species in their natural habitats, while the River Nile boat cruise reveals hippos, elephants, and an impressive variety of birdlife along the shoreline. An optional hike to the top of Murchison Falls further showcases the park’s dramatic ecosystems and the power of the Nile within a protected natural environment.
Activities such as primate tracking, guided nature walks, and community walks are key components of most safaris, allowing participants to explore on foot rather than by vehicle, reducing emissions while deepening engagement with the environment.

People

Local Economy

The project actively supports the local economy by creating meaningful opportunities for communities throughout the itinerary. Local guides are employed year-round, ensuring income remains within the community while also providing guests with authentic, locally informed experiences. The program includes visits to craft markets such as the Buganda Road Craft Market in Kampala, where participants directly support local artisans. Village and home visits, including optional homestays, further strengthen community engagement and provide families with additional income. One of our local guides has also opened his country home to visiting guests, creating a unique, community-led experience that directly benefits local households and demonstrates a strong commitment to locally driven tourism. Most food served during the safari is locally sourced and seasonal, supporting local farmers.

Employment, Inclusion & diversity

All staff employed by us and our operating partners in Uganda are Ugandan nationals, with 100% of positions filled by people from the country, many of whom come directly from the local communities where the project operates. This approach ensures that employment benefits remain local and contribute directly to community livelihoods.

We actively create income-generating opportunities for groups that are often excluded or marginalised, including women, individuals from low-income households, and community members in rural areas. These opportunities include roles as local guides, support staff, hosts for village visits and homestays, and participants in craft and cooperative markets visited during the program.

All staff are paid at least the legal minimum wage in Uganda, and in addition, the program includes a dedicated tipping budget during safaris to further supplement local incomes in a fair and transparent way.
