CARBON REDUCTION:
Once in Naboisho, shared game drives are used for both day and night safaris, reducing the number of vehicles needed per guest and the associated fuel use. Guided bush walks and exploring Stone Town on foot also replace vehicle-based activities for those parts of the trip.
Basecamp Eagle View has built solar power, rainwater harvesting and waste reduction into its day-to-day operations. The camp generates most of its electricity from solar panels and supplements its borehole with harvested rainwater. Kitchen waste is composted, while 96% of the camp's general waste is recycled. It also uses biodegradable detergents and sources supplies locally where possible.
Zanzibar Queen uses locally sourced ingredients and makes its fruit juices from locally grown fruit. Both properties can cater for vegetarian, vegan and other dietary requirements on request.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE:
The safari takes place in Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a 60,000-acre community-owned conservancy where more than 700 Maasai landowners have committed their land to wildlife conservation through long-term leases. Tourism fees contribute to landowner payments and conservation work, while the conservancy limits development to eight camps and a maximum of 150 beds. Basecamp Eagle View supports reforestation through Seedballs Kenya, with guests able to scatter indigenous tree seedballs during game drives. The camp has also supported predator-proof livestock enclosures and wildlife research, including work with the Mara Elephant Project. Through the Basecamp Foundation, it supports the Koiyaki Guiding School and community projects focused on education and access to water. The camp's community visits include a Maasai women's arts center, linking tourism with local cultural and economic activity rather than treating the community as a backdrop to the safari.

LOCAL ECONOMY:
Basecamp Eagle View has strong links with the local Maasai community, with around 90% of its staff recruited locally. The camp buys local produce and products such as meat and beadwork, and supports the Koiyaki Guiding School through training and employment opportunities for people from the surrounding area. It also pays land lease, conservancy and bed-night fees, with tourism income going directly to local landowners. Zanzibar Palace Hotel is independently owned and managed, rather than being part of an international chain, and occupies a nine-room property in a historic Stone Town building. Zanzibar Queen works with local suppliers and includes visits to an algae plantation and nearby villages as part of its local experiences.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY:
Basecamp Eagle View employs around 90% of its staff from the local Maasai community and supports progression into the safari industry through the Koiyaki Guiding School. The Basecamp Maasai Brand also creates income for Maasai women by selling locally made beadwork, while the camp encourages the training and progression of senior female staff. Eagle View welcomes children aged seven and over, although the camp is unfenced and walking safaris are restricted to guests aged 15 and above. Zanzibar Queen has wheelchair-accessible facilities, including an accessible route through the property and accessible parking, although the full itinerary should be checked with the operator for guests with additional mobility needs.
