Small group adventure
What is a small group adventure? It's a great way to travel! Whether you are traveling on your own, with a partner or with friends, a small group trip is a fantastic way to see the world. You'll travel on a fixed itinerary that has been designed to help you discover the best of region. From the known highlights, the hidden gems that you won't find in the guidebooks.
Itineraries run on set departure dates, accompanied every step of the way by an English speaking local group leader. You chose the itinerary and the date that suits you best and you book on.
Why travel on a small group adventure?
Small groups allow us to explore where larger tour groups can't. Our maximum group size of 16 travelers allows us to use local transport to get from A to B, to visit rural villages, spend time with the locals and even stay at a local home overnight, and it allows us to give our travelers genuine, real life experiences of the countries we are visiting; what you'll be doing and how you'll travel depends entirely on your chosen itinerary.
Is an adventure right for me?
The word adventure means something different to everyone, and our range of trips reflects that. Whether you want to explore local markets, visit out of the way temples and meet local people or go on an early morning safari drive searching for the 'big five', we'll have a trip for you. If you are looking for a physical challenge such trekking the Kokoda Track or summiting Kilimanjaro, we can help with that too.
So what can I expect on this trip?
This is a classic style of small group adventure. You'll find your trip combines a good mix of included activities and free time, with some meals included as per your itinerary. We don't want you to feel chaperoned, it's your vacation not ours. Your group leader will be on hand to assist with organising anything you might wish to do in your free time, but how you spend it is up to you. Anything listed as included in your itinerary will be included in trip price; whereas anything listed as optional will be at an additional cost should you wish to take part.
These trips are great value, including things that you would struggle to organise independently, such as a night at a homestay in a remote village, or local guides around a remote place of interest. Transport will be a combination of private vehicle and public transport, whichever is the most appropriate for the route we are traveling; this might include train, plane, camel, tuk tuk, bicycle, boat…
On a majority of these trips you'll stay in 2-3 star accommodation, locally owned and reflective of the region you are traveling through. All solo travelers will be automatically roomed on a twin share basis with another group member of the same sex, unless you opt to pay for your own room at time of booking. There are no compulsory single supplements for solo travelers willing to share. Single rooms aren't available on camping trips, and you will be expected to help out with camp tasks such as setting up and breaking down your camp.
Can I book my flights with you?
Yes! We are a fully ATOL bonded tour operator meaning that we can book flights from the UK as part of your vacation package. Just ask us for a quote including flights when you make your inquiry.

Responsible tourism: Cambodia adventure vacation
On this trip you are joined by a leader throughout and local guides along the way who are always eager to share information about their country and culture, and help you break down barriers in your interactions with local people.
The ruins of Angkor are protected under UNESCO World Heritage listing and as such, part of the money received from entrance tickets contributes to the amazing site’s conservation. Your local guide will also give you plenty of guidance on what is appropriate when visiting the ruins and you will have the chance to interact with many of the local kids.
Travelers will have the option of visiting the land mine museum in Siem Reap and any donations are gratefully accepted. Also in Siem Reap, there is a local children’s hospital where the local kids put on a show on some nights. All money and blood donations are for the hospital and provide free services for children from the area.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
It was great to have enough time to see everywhere properly, by staying two or three nights in most places, and not just rushing through like so many tours do. We had plenty of time to explore Angkor Wat and the other temples, with a ticket that let us go back later individually if we wanted.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
The island trip and beach stay at the end was lovely, but Sihanoukville town itself is a rubbish dump meets building site, so don't expeect anything of that. The traveling times between different places also generally took longer than scheduled.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, and there are many restaurants, craft centres and massage rooms you can seek out that support disabled and blind people or give opportunities to youngsters.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
I enjoyed it - I wanted to experience Cambodia itself and not just as a tag-on to Vietnam or Thailand, and this is one of very few tours that offers that,

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The people of Cambodia are amazing, so friendly and smiling. Also the wonderful flora and fauna, just fabulous, promenades of the river or ocean at dawn. Motor bike taxis and tuk tuks!
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
If you go to Sihanokville try and pre book the pre nup mangrove forest; we never got to do this but if you like bird watching it might be worth a try. the regular trip most people do is snorkelling and beach and the mangrove might be more interesting.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
I am sure the money we spent trickled down to the local level and benefited the local people. We were a small group so not intrusive. There was not always a place to fill up on safe water so buying bottled water and the plastic involved is a problem; need to promote recycling more, as in India. I wonder about all those people walking all over the temples at Angkor Wat; is this causing damage; it is fantastic to be able to do it but it might be worth looking at more closely.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Excellent value for money; Cambodia tugs at the heart strings and makes you want to help in some way.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
1. Angkor Wat & other temples in the area &
2. Motor bike ride outside Battembang
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be aware that there are a lot of journeys on public buses which are not all clean.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
to some extent, not a lot
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Good, but too many long journeys on public buses - one would be enough. Rest should be by air when available or private bus/taxi. Latter is cheap and takes far less time.
Read the operator's response here:
We do try to minimise our negative impact on the environment in Cambodia by traveling on local buses. The rationale is that these buses are running with local people offering our travelers the chance to experience the real Cambodia while not adding to the road traffic by using private buses.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Seeing the floating village (Siem Reap) and Angkor Wat.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Get your visas in good time. Don't bother bringing travelers cheques, there are numerous ATMs. No need to bring bedding (eg sleeping bag or liner) the hotels are top notch. Bring an extra memory card for all your photos.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
We went shopping in the local markets and ate at the restaurants so in that respect the locals certainly benefited from our visit. I believe the impact on the environment was minimal and certainly could not be reduced.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
I had such a good time, the size of the group was just right and the age band was not too wide. Our guide was very competent and really made the trip work, it was so stress free.
