Vacation information

Small group family adventure:
This is a small group family adventure - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The whole tour was amazing but the best was the tour guide Juan Carlos - he was exceptional (knowledgable, funny, infinitely patient, amazing with kids and
flexible when needed.) Trip highlight was Tortuguero national park - the boat
trips seeing wildlife were amazing and the fab turtle shaped pool at the hotel
was a big hit with the kids!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Encourage an interest in wildlife before the trip (eg David Attenborough
programs) as some kids really got into it whilst others preferred to get back to
their phones :-(
Take light quick drying clothes as can rain at any time.
Take antihistamine cream for insect bites as kids can react more than adults.
Just book it - we LOVED this trip and my 9 year old would repeat it all tomorrow if she could!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, we felt the operator had considered the environment where possible and chosen hotels/activities to support local people.
The tour guide also took us to local (good) restaurants and educated us about conservation in Costa Rica.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

The vacation was 11/10! Pre-kids we did a lot of group tours and this was one of the best! Our daughter had the experience of a lifetime on a well balanced tour of fun, education, adventure and travel.
Would not hesitate to recommend it!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet and people

We consider it very important to give our support to the countries that we visit, which we do, particularly in Costa Rica in a number of ways.

We support the Caribbean Conservation Corps in Tortuguero National Park which contributes to conservation in the Turtle laying area of Costa Ricas coast, and encouraging people to help clean up the beach where turtles lay their eggs.

Proceeds from the entry fees to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve help to protect the highly endangered habitat of the Resplendant Quetzal, of which only 300 pairs remain in the world.

We also use a locally owned agent, suppliers, hotels and restaurants. We try to ensure that we have minimum impact on the flora and fauna that we see when we are exploring, so that their lives and surroundings are not affected.

Our Tour Leaders are all trained by us in the importance of responsible tourism with guidance given on how they can make a difference. This then percolates down through those they deal with.

In addition to the above, we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage. As well as this, we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators. As a company we support Cool Earth. Protecting rainforest is one of the most effective actions to tackle climate breakdown. CoolEarth work with indigenous communities empowering them to conserve their forest; keeping CO2 locked in
