About this vacation company:
The founders led overland trips across the world in the 60s and 70s before creating this company in 1981. Today, it offers tours in 120 countries, but never lost that pioneering spirit of adventure.
Small group tour:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modelled on independent travel but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. Its easy to tick off the big sights independently but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, traveling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. Those with a two-week vacation, a small group tour will save valuable planning time.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Getting to Mycenae early enough to go straight to the top of the sight and having five minutes absorbing the atmosphere on our own.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

We had two extra nights in Athens because there was only one direct flight a week from where we live in France. This gave us time to see most of the extra sites in Athens not included in the tour, especially the Archaeological Museum. So we would recommend having extra time in Athens if possible.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It used local hotels and transport companies.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The mountains around Nizwa in Oman and the night spent on the dhow off the coast near Muscat.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Up until the end of October, Oman is still hot, so don't take too many warm clothes. Also, although a sleeping bag is recommended, it is not really necessary for camping.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Oman has a problem disposing of garbage and there is no recycling yet, so I feel we contributed to the problem by using bottled water. Also, driving on beaches and sand dunes in four wheel drives as part of the tour was detrimental to the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Overall, the trip to Oman was very interesting as the landscape of culture are unique. It was well organised and the group dynamic was positive which made the tour most enjoyable.

Read the operator's response here:

It sounds as though for the most part you enjoyed your trip, but we did note your point about the bottled water. This is something we are looking at as a company. Filter bottles are a possibility, as is using larger containers that people can refill their bottles from, as potential solutions. Our Operations Manager for the region is discussing this with our local agent, and also the matter of driving on the dunes. We do not wish to encourage any activity which might degrade the environment.

I hope that your overall memories are very good, and I know its long way off, but we look forward to welcoming you onto our Sicily trip next autumn.
