No Snow?
The Dolomites is a wonderful place to explore, whether that be on skis, snowshoes or on foot. If there is not enough snow to ski, we will don our walking boots and head out into this unmistakable mountain environment. Fresh air doesn’t get much fresher! The hotel also has a lovely spa area to while away a few spare hours with a dip in the Jacuzzi or a swim. In past winters there have been poor snow conditions on occasions in early January.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
UK office
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Activity
Our selection of alternative winter activities seeks to make the most of the natural environment in its pristine state, rather than changing it. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dogsledding are best suited to remote wilderness areas and the development of these alternatives is key to the long-term survival of many mountain communities.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

Leaders & local suppliers
Our base for the week is Hotel Tschurtschenthaler, a small family run hotel perfectly located in the center of Dobbiaco. We have worked with this hotel for many years so all our groups receive a warm welcome from the family. Thanks to the excellent location of the hotel, our groups are able to use public transport every day to take them to the start of cross-country skiing trails. All our leaders are committed to Responsible Tourism and have received training and get additional refresher training on a regular basis so they can help you reduce you impact and maximise the benefits to the local communities from your visit.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Getting out into the nature reserve in winter & learning about the habitat & also the history

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Ask about the poles that the operator supplies. They can't be adjusted & our guide suggested that we bring our own adjustable poles.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. We were in a small village which depended on tourism. Our hotel seemed to be the hub of the village. Other villages in the area had been abanoned.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Good value for money.

Pack for a casual visit and do not forget to relax.

It did show a lot of local efforts to reduce emission from buses to serving locally produced food and vegetarian option for each meal.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fun and exhausting due to all long ski trips... but that was the purpose. Good guides.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Being in the beautiful Dolomite mountains

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Some work on your fitness pays dividends in how much you enjoy the skiing. Shoulders, core and legs all work really hard. I am quite a fit cyclist but I still struggled to keep up with it. It is usually possible to stop early if you can't do the whole day, but obviously you miss out if you do.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was a cracking vacation. Not only great skiing with a good instructor and a great group, but also plenty to do outside the skiing. Maybe the day's skiing was a bit long for beginners, but the instructor accommodated those who couldn't keep up well.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The scenery and skiing was incredible. The people that I met who are now friends were amazing. Skiing over the roof of the stadium is a great memory as well as being told that I was good enough to be able to enter a race.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The fitter you are before you go the more you'll enjoy it. If you've never skiied before then don't worry as you won't be the only one.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes because we ate out at lunch in different restaurants.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excelllent. The only downside was the flight diversion on the way there consequently meaning that we arrived at our destination 8 hours late.
