Making a Difference
As a partner of Responsible Travel you are making a commitment to minimise environmental impact and give back to local communities. We want to shout about this and highlight what you are doing that goes above and beyond in terms of responsible tourism in your ‘Making a Difference’ section (MAD for short) at the bottom of your product pages.
» We explain what to include, as well as tips and examples in our guide to writing a MAD section.

OTHER PROJECTS
In addition to the making a difference section, we have been working on a number of projects focusing on a range of important issues including single use plastics, accessible tourism and low carbon vacations. With your help we have created dedicated sections on the site to feature the inspiring things you have been doing in relation to the above.
Our ‘no single use plastic’ section, features trips which have eradicated single use plastics entirely - in the rooms of the accommodation, on transport organised by the tour operator, restaurants included in the itinerary, as well as on any organised activities. Examples of single use plastic that have been eliminated on these trips include bags, cutlery, plates, wrappers, laundry bags, toiletries and many more. For inspiration see our page on how to reduce single use plastics which showcases some of the inventive schemes our members have been putting into action.
Our range of accessible vacations are helping to show that even adventurous travel need not be off limits to someone with accessible requirements. So far we’ve signed up nearly 150 trips including horse riding vacations across India, surfing in Costa Rica, Mongolian discovery tours and cruises on the River Nile. You can help us to change the travel industry so that it better serves people with accessibility requirements - a welcoming can-do attitude is a great place to start. Watch our video on why 'why we have decided to act on accessible travel and for practical information on joining the section.
De-carbonising travel lies at the heart of responsible tourism today, and in order to make the travel we all enjoy truly environmentally responsible, we need to be ambitious about cutting carbon emissions. Our low carbon vacations travel guide contains lots of inspiring information on new technologies, and advances in low carbon transport and accommodation. Read about what you can do to design vacations with reduced carbon emissions.
If this is something you have been thinking about or are putting into action on one of your trips, you can join our low carbon vacations section. You will be featured alongside other members who are putting carbon reduction into practice, such as Undiscovered Destinations, who are offering travelers the option of traveling to/from the start/end point of the tour by train, and will book that train travel for their guests. We have promoted this service on their product pages.
If you have a trip which you can or have adapted for any of the above, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with your partnership manager for more information.
If the destinations you operate in are affected by overtourism you can read our overtourism advice for tour operators.
