Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

These safaris are walking safaris, so impact by vehicles is reduced significantly. All luggage and supplies are portered into the camps. There is also the option to join a guide bicycle safari - which is an incredibly unusual option and environmentally sound. All of the camps recycle their water and limit their own footprint while in operation. With every booking, we donate funds to Helping Rhinos, our charity partner.
Helping Rhinos have been set up to create awareness of the issues threatening the global rhino population and raises funds to help protect them for future generations.
The donation we give for every booking to Helping Rhinos goes towards training for members of the local community to become rangers and ensure that there are more local people trained in the fight against poaching. This is important from a conservation perspective in order to preserve and protect one of our most important and prehistoric species, but also from an educational perspective as members of the local community are trained and offered jobs and a career - as well as educated about Rhino conservation.
People
All of the lodges used on the walking safaris are actively involved, through the Tafika Fund, in sustainably uplifting the surrounding community. Over the years a number of long-term initiatives have been successfully implemented and maintained, these include:Mkasanga School:
Donations to the Tafika Fund are used to assist the (government run) Mkasanga School in a number of ways. From ongoing building renovation, to the purchase and supply of stationery, textbooks and over 2500 library books, desks, school supplies, additional educational material and the payment of teachers' salaries, the Tafika Fund makes a significant difference to present lives and future aspirations of Mkasanga scholars.
Scholarships:
Donations, to the Tafika Fund are also used to fund full educational scholarships to some of the top Mkasanga graduates each year. Presently six new students are afforded scholarships a year and a new skills programme, to support post school training, ensures that these students continue learning even after they leave. Presently 30 students are assisted by the scholarship programme and, thanks to individual sponsors, the number of scholarships continues to grow.
Outpatient clinic:
Donations, to the Tafika Fund were used to fund the building of an outpatient clinic in Mkasanga, which acts as a first aid center for the 2000 residents of Mkasanga. There are long term plans to extend the clinic, which officially opened its doors in March 2006, to include an inpatient and maternity wing.
