Armenia hiking vacation, small group

Carbon reduction

Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.

Environment

The destinations which we included in this program are very reach with Armenian monasteries, forests, caves and waterfalls. These places are the most beautiful and fragile parts of Armenia. You can find many sites preserved by UNESCO, ancient monasteries, large vineyards, mysterious caves etc. During our Walking tour tourists will visit Dilijan National Park and Arpi Lake National Park which provide for normal ecosystem development, landscape and biodiversity conservation, as well as protection of historical and cultural patrimony of Armenia.

Obviously, a walking tour consists of being outdoors a majority of the time. Our tourists will soak up plenty of Vitamin D from the sun, and their lungs will be filtering fresh air instead of polluted city air.

Modern cars, if kept in good condition, produce only quite small quantities of the air quality pollutants, but the emissions from large numbers of cars add to a significant air quality problem. So this tour will give an excellent opportunity to travel around our country without using cars for whole day and by this to reduce the level of air pollution.

Water is vital during this tour. This means that our tourists should have at least 2 bottles of water every day, but it is not necessary to have with them plastic bottles. Plastic bottles contain Bisphenol A (BPA), the chemical used to make the plastic hard and clear. BPA is an endocrine disruptor which has been proven to be hazardous to human health. It has been strongly linked to a host of health problems including certain types of cancer, neurological difficulties and so on. So we suggest our tourists having with them bottles from hard material like steel rather than a plastic bottle. Not to mention the fact that Armenia is famous for its fresh drinkable delicious water so you wonít have a problem of finding a natural springs during your tour.
But in case of use plastic bottles, we offer an optimal way of action. There are special trash boxes for plastic bottles in Armenia. Bottles of that boxes pass a manufacturing process, which give an opportunity to save our resources.

Community

We are sure that our tourists will give a huge impact to the local communities while getting acquainted with their daily life. This gives a chance both to the tourist and local people to meet each others cultural differences. We always encourage our tourists to visit local markets, buy souvenirs and local products from local stores.
In this tour our tourists overnight in the guesthouses or B&B owned by local people. While staying there, they will have the opportunity to try local cuisine there and will have an impact to their development too.
Nowadays many houses that are located in the villages as well as guest houses and B&B try to set solar cells in their roofs, which are electronic devices that convert direct sunlight into electricity. This method helps them to save electricity.
Group size
The tour has a small group size, maximum 10 participants, as the routes are not intended for larger groups. And this means that it causes a very low impact to the environment. Another advantage of having a small group is that it helps to stay in a family run.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Would not describe it as a trip of highlights. Everything enjoyable.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Put trust in the company. They are genuinely interested in your welfare. They are flexible, helpful and appoint good staff. I could not recommend them highly enough.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I do not believe any form of tourism is environmentally sustainable but equally all of it has economic benefits for service providers etc. I have a professional interest in building conservation and preservation, as does our guide. He took pictures of modern accretions to World Heritage sites which contravene UNESCO guidelines. He did not discuss this with us as this was the action of a concerned citizen rather than tour guide.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I have no criticisms only praise and one suggestion. The company are excellent. My one disappointment from the trip was the food. Armenian cuisine is a major draw for many visitors and the best food we had by a country mile was when staying in family run guest houses, although not all of them. The guide did his best to find decent places but l think the company as a whole ought to consider this as something to research for all trips.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

How can I begin as every day was wonderful. Probably the best walk was on our 3rd day when we walked up to the castle and then down and up again to the monastery and then on the way down walked with a herd of cows who seemed to enjoy our company.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Bring gaiters if you are to hike Mt Aragat, I found my walking poles invaluable, make sure you have good waterproof hiking boots - we had no rain so I canít speak to rainwear needs though I brought them with me.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not really though we always took our food wrappers and other trash with us. Driving by van was essential but itís not environmentally positive!

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

For me 10 out of 10! Ara was a great guide who was very knowledgeable and always made sure I was safe.
