Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Armenia and Georgia food and wine tour

During our “Gastronomic Tour to Armenia and Georgia” the tourists overnight in accommodations that are locally run and staffed with people from the surrounding areas, which has a positive effect on employment levels and economy in the region. Most guesthouses are located in the vicinity of the town centers and the UNESCO historic site we visit, which reduces further the need for carbon-producing transfer vehicles on the trip. Lunches and dinners are mostly taken in local restaurants or cafes so that clients can enjoy various local authentic delicacies and at the same time support numerous local businesses.

The best action we can take to respect our environment is to let people know how to behave while walking in the countryside, such as keeping our litter with us, not damaging flowers, respecting wildlife habitats and so on.
We also respect the environment by our working policy. In our offices, we operate mainly with computers. We use emails rather than fax and do print documents but store them on our computers and in online clouds. All of our invoices travel information and travel documents to our clients are issued as PDF - not printed on paper.

We reduce waste and pollution by asking our tourists to minimize the use of plastic bags, plates, bottles etc.

Armenia is mountainous country and is reach in spring pure water. The water that flows here from the tap is clean and drinkable. Also in the capital and in other cities, there are special fountains with drinking water almost on every street. That's why we ask our tourists to use reusable bottles and fill them with water every day, and not buy water in disposable plastic bottles. To be on the safe side we advise travelers to bring drugged or metal filters to be sure water doesn't harm their stomach. Thus, all this helps to minimize littering and plastic use in the country.

We cooperate with suppliers that share our environmental values. We use the services of hotels and guest houses that use solar power to heat water and generate electricity.

We are a keen supporter of local farmers and artisans. All the produce is sourced locally and the fruits and vegetables are mostly organic. Some of the wines included in our tour are not available anywhere outside of these countries. Some of them are not even available in local shops, only at the home of the winemakers. This gives our guests a really unique chance to try something that they could never purchase at home. By visiting “Van Ardi”, “Areni” , “Old Bridge” , “Ijevan” , “Khareba” , “Chateau Mukhrani” wineries where one can taste the most famous wines of Armenia and Georgia one can help put some money into the local economy and give good word of mouth to these businesses, which is key to their sustainability.

With every traveler who visits these villages to experience these local occupations first-hand we contribute monetarily to family-run guesthouses to help them to be committed to these traditional occupations.

Local crafts and culture
During our Gastronomic Tour to Armenia and Georgia, the travelers will visit various local wineries and have interesting master classes on traditional food preparation. In wineries, our tourists can taste local wines, get acquainted with ancient Armenian and Georgian traditions of winemaking and buy some local wines or brandy. During masterclasses, the tourists not only learn the recipes of national food preparation but also get acquainted with its history. We also take our tourists to places where they can buy various handmade local souvenirs. Thus, they can both learn Armenian national customs and traditions and support local craft makers.

Traveling with respect
We always inform our tourists about local customs and traditions, communication issues and rules of conduct in the churches. Thus, we minimize the risk of misunderstanding with locals and disrespectful behavior in religious places.

We also try to make a good relationship between tourist and locals by organizing lunches or dinners at local’s home. This gives a chance to both tourists and local people to meet each other's cultural differences and have a cultural exchange.
