Description of Thailand for families vacation

Thailand is one of the most family-friendly vacation destinations in Southeast Asia, and this Thailand for Families itinerary covers the best that the south of the country has to offer. Beginning in Bangkok, youíll get to discover the capital on a treasure hunt through some of its historical and cultural sights, adding an exciting twist to your exploration of the city. No visit would be complete without a boat ride on one of Bangkokís canals (khlongs). In this itinerary youíll discover the Thonburi khlongs, a section which offers a glimpse into the capitalís rapid development, where traditional teak houses rub shoulders with modern mansions.

From Bangkok youíll travel overland to its southern beaches, passing through some of Thailandís most spectacular scenery along the way. Stop at Petchaburi, which is home to the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) who do an excellent job at rescuing wild animals, providing sanctuary for sick or disabled animals and promoting natural resource conservation. Youíll visit the center, learn about the work they do there and stay overnight in their ecolodge.

An overnight stop will also be made at Kuri Buri, home to a community village involved in the production of sustainable goods, as well one of the best national parks to spot wildlife in the country. Youíll also visit Chumphon and Ranong, where you can do some island hopping without the crowds, visit a community enterprise coffee plantation and kayak through a mangrove forest.

Perhaps the highlight of this itinerary is the incredibly beautiful Khao Sok National Park and the Elephant Hills program which is based there. Youíll stay in luxury tented accommodation and enjoy a variety of activities on and around the lake area, including a visit to the elephant sanctuary, wildlife spotting, jungle trekking, and canoeing.

The itinerary ends at Khao Lak, a stunning area of white sand beaches and home to three national parks. Here youíll join a fun cooking class and the rest of your time will be at leisure to relax on the beach or arrange day trips locally.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We carefully choose suppliers in Southeast Asia who reflect our responsible and sustainable ethos. Our current supplier not only has a foundation that works with, supports and advises many different projects and NGOís in Asia, they are also Travelife certified. Travelife is an internationally accredited certification scheme that helps organisations improve their social, economic and environmental impacts that they have as a business.

In this itinerary you will also visit and contribute directly to wildlife conservation projects in Southern Thailand. The first will be the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) in Petchaburi, who do excellent work rescuing neglected wild animals, providing sanctuary for sick and disabled animals, educating people, and promoting conservation of natural resources. On visits to Kuri Buri National Park, Chumphon Islands National Park, and Khao Sok National Park, you will be contributing to the conservation of protected species within these areas, as well as the survival of the sanctuary at Elephant Hills. Your visits to Kuri Buri and Gong Valley will also contribute to the sustainable projects happening in these communities.

People

Wherever possible, we encourage you to spend as much time as possible in local communities, interacting with local people to find out more about their way of life and traditional, cultural practices.

In this itinerary you will visit some Bangkok neighbourhoods which are far away from the commercial side of the city and rarely visited by foreign tourists. Here youíll have opportunities to meet local people and learn about a different side to one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the world.

Traveling overland to Southern Thailand, from the capital, will also give you an opportunity to stop by some little-visited rural communities who are engaging in sustainability initiatives designed to protect the environment and provide a sustainable source of income for the villagers. Community members will be keen to show you the positive impacts these projects are having which in turn can help to raise their profile. In Kuri Buri youíll learn about sustainable cottage industries, such as elephant dung paper making, rubber tapping and silk processing. In the Gong Valley youíll learn about chemical-free coffee growing.

We always ensure we use local English speaking guides wherever possible. Our guides are fantastic ambassadors for their own regions, whether itís explaining the history, culture or food etiquette, but best of all, they act as a bridge to the local people you meet along the way.
