Description of Thailand for families vacation
This adventure combines the best of Thailand for families: think treasure hunts, snorkelling, family-friendly hotels, meeting elephants and time to relax together on the beach.
Your adventure begins in Bangkok, where you’ll we swap a sightseeing tour for a city-wide treasure hunt. Climb aboard a boat along the Thonburi khlongs (canals) hopping out to explore temples and feed the “holy” catfish.
Next, travel south to Phetchaburi where you’ll meet rescued animals, including elephants, gibbons and lorises at the Wildlife Friends Foundation sanctuary. Sleep in an ecolodge, drifting off to the sounds of the forest.
In Kui Buri, a village on the edge of a national park between pineapple and rubber plantations, try silk harvesting and paper-making before embarking on an afternoon safari adventure. Kui Buri’s elephant herds are famous – not only for being the highest concentration of wild elephants in Thailand, but also for being local fruit thieves. And it’s not just about the jumbos, watch out too for bison-like gaur and packs of golden jackals.
Further south in Chumphon, explore a protected coastal reserve of mangrove forests, boardwalks and palm-fringed beaches. Island-hop and snorkel in Ranong between coral reefs and rainforest-backed bays.
It wouldn’t be Thailand adventure without visiting elephants, and in this trip, you’ll do it twice. In Khao Sok National Park, meet and feed elephants alongside their mahout carers, and sleep in “glamping” jungle camps and floating lodges, complete with beds and bathrooms.
The trip winds down in Khao Lak. While there are restaurants and amenities on your doorstep, there are more serene stretches of sand too, cookery lessons to keep the kids busy and day trips to waterfalls and caves. Alternatively, you may like to grab a book and settle on the beach, kids paddling in the water.

Kui Buri's wild elephants are famous for raiding local fruit farms. Away from their escapades, you’ll see them in the national park – alongside gaur and, if you're lucky, a flash of golden jackal. Further south, Khao Sok's canoe safari crosses a lake ringed by limestone karsts, with rainforest rising straight off the water. In Ranong, the snorkelling is between coral reefs and rainforest-backed bays.This itinerary isn’t a straight city to beach resort hop. From Bangkok to Phetchaburi to Kui Buri to Chumphon to Ranong to Khao Sok to Khao Lak – you’ll journey overland. In this itinerary you will visit some Bangkok neighbourhoods which are far away from the commercial side of the city and rarely visited by foreign tourists. Here you’ll have opportunities to meet local people and learn about a different side to one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the world.Traveling overland to Southern Thailand, from the capital, will also give you an opportunity to stop by some little-visited rural communities who are engaging in sustainability initiatives designed to protect the environment and provide a sustainable source of income for the villagers. Community members will be keen to show you the positive impacts these projects are having which in turn can help to raise their profile. In Kui Buri you’ll learn about sustainable cottage industries, such as elephant dung paper making, rubber tapping and silk processing. In the Gong Valley you’ll learn about chemical-free coffee growing.
