Just as our other tours that are pointed at observing animals, such as the Bird Watching Tour, we make sure that it is a nice experience for everyone involved. This means no negative impacts for the animals themselves.
One of the activities of the tour is swimming with the Whale Shark. We would like to use this activity as an example of how we make sure that the animals are not harmed. First of all, there is an environmental dock tax (included). The money is asked to help maintain the beaches and ecosystems in the Riviera Maya. Next to that, we have contacts with companies that are actively working on research projects about the marine life. With more than 15 years of experience in research with great results in the conservation of the Whale Shark, the Manta Ray protection in Mexico, and remarkable outcomes in Dolphin studies (Choojajauil).
Swimming with whale sharks with us is done in a very eco-friendly manner. We follow strict regulations when swimming with them, with a no touching and diving policy. To them, humans in the water will appear as other creatures of the sea and as long as you give them their space, we can all enjoy each other’s company!

People

It is important not only to be aware about the impacts on the environment, but also on the community. That is why we are supporting everything that is local. We hire mostly Mexican guides and also buys Mexican merchandise as opposed to Chinese merchandise, which is obviously cheaper, but not helping the local economy. During the tour, you will be offered water and fruits, that are both gained locally.
The external parties that we work with, such as the hotels, carry out the same attitude. For example the hotel Rey del Caribe (eco-friendly as well!) makes sure that the products for the breakfast are all local: tropical fruit, Mexican coffee, etcetera. Another example is the hotel Meson Del Marques, which serves many Mexican dishes for dinner! It is not only beneficial for the local community and economy, it also a way of getting to know and respect the local culture!
