Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION:
1. As much as possible internal transfers are done with local vehicles and in groups so that we can reduce your individual carbon emissions. We also mainly walk to projects and there is less use of vehicles on this project.
2.All our accommodations are earth friendly and we respect the environment. You will be using reneweable energy for electricity as well. You will be living in bamboo structures that are all eco friendly.
3. We generally provide vegan and vegetarian food. If anyone is a meat eater we can cater to this but on request only. Everything we get is locally sourced only.

Environment and wildlife:
There are several ways in which we are helping the planet through this program
1. Beach cleanups: Costa Rica is known for its beautiful beaches, but they are also vulnerable to pollution. Volunteers can join local organizations to help clean up the beaches and prevent litter from entering the ocean.
2. Costa Rica is home to several species of sea turtles, including the Olive Ridley and the Green turtle. Volunteers can help protect these endangered species by monitoring nesting sites, collecting data, and releasing hatchlings into the ocean.
3.Costa Rica is a hub for sustainable living and permaculture farms. So is our project. Volunteers will work with local farmers to learn about organic farming techniques, sustainable living practices, and help with tasks such as planting, harvesting, and composting. We have our own composting in the camp. All participants are encouraged to join our farming and permaculture especially if you are coming during non turtle nesting season.
4. Like many coastal towns, faces challenges with waste management and recycling. Due to the lack of proper infrastructure, waste often ends up in landfills or littered on the streets and beaches, causing harm to the environment and wildlife. We are helping building & Maintain Recycling stations and help in the only recycling center close by, twice a week at least.
5. We have expert nature guides and all are locals from the area

People

LOCAL ECONOMY:

All our accommodation is locally owned and we are not working with international chains. This helps support the locals directly and wholly.
During your time on the project you will be integrated with the community fully and will visit local community centers.
Community work with the kids of the local community is an integral part of our program. We work hand in hand with the children from our immediate vicinity, hosting extracurricular activities for them. Our activities are run by student and local volunteers, and include sports, arts and crafts, English classes, and environmental and social awareness programs.

We also organize and run out-of-school activities, including Saturday afternoons, which are open to all our clients to get involved. These activities give the kids the opportunity to experience new adventures, such as organized sea safety, beach and kids surf classes, nature and turtle conservation, sports games, and arts and crafts.

We have also built recycling stations in our neighborhood and educate citizens on how to maintain them and correctly separate their recycling.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
100% of our staff are from Costa Rica only. We only hire locals to run programs. We also work with a lot of locals from villages that we are based in so it is easy for them to work with us and also earn a living.
We are inclusive and are open to the LGBTQI community and we encourage them to join us and work with us or volunteer with us as well.
