CARBON REDUCTION

Rather than each volunteer taking taxis to the project a local group vehicle is provided to transport volunteers from their accommodation to the dog rescue center, this helps to reduce road traffic and pollution in the area. Vegan and vegetarian food is available locally.

We openly recognise the challenge we are facing and are trying to do everything we can to tackle climate change – we care deeply for our planet! We have put in place steps to minimise environmental impact and address the emissions from flights.

Environmental Fund – for every volunteer that joins a this project, we contribute to environmental initiatives in countries we work in - currently focusing on solar lighting in Ghana. We can all take to reduce our carbon footprint while traveling before, during and after a trip and provide advice for our volunteers on their trips too.

We encourage our volunteers to combine volunteering with a vacation to explore the country so that it reduces the number of flights that they do. We encourage flying direct, as indirect flights use more fuel. Volunteers are asked reduce the amount of plastic they use on vacation but taking reusable bags, water bottles, straws and cutlery as well as taking shampoo and conditioner bars rather than in plastic bottles. When on the trip volunteers are asked to use water carefully, switch off all electric devises when they leave rooms and use public transport to explore.


ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The Asian dog meat trade is one of the biggest animal welfare concerns in the world. The project is a driving force behind conversations with the leaders who have the power to make change and volunteers support will help take steps to end this cruel and inhumane practice.

We provide our volunteers with tips and advice on how to travel responsibly and reduce their environmental impact.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

Volunteers stay in a guesthouse in Phuket which is locally owned. There are many locally owned restaurants and cafes which volunteers visit each evening for dinner and sun downers. There are local farmers and handicraft markets where they can buy locally made items and souvenirs.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The project employs, trains and empowers many local members of the local community who are employed at the project. The project trains new thai vets and vets from local others countries too. We recommend this project for LGBTQ+ families.

Thailand is home to millions of stray dogs and cats so the projects spay and neuter project is incredibly important for the local communtities.

As well as neuturing the team help in vital vaccinations for dogs which helps to minimise the spread of potentially life-threatening diseases such as rabies. The ultimate goal of vaccination is to eliminate rabies in Thailand which is an incredible campaign for change. Rabies is harmless to local communities so the vital work vaccinating the stray dog population directly helps the local community to be more safe.
