Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION

We conduct regular environmental reviews of our trips and suppliers to help identify opportunities to improve environmental practices and reduce impacts where possible.

At the start of the trip, travelers receive information about our Small Change initiative, including practical ways to reduce their environmental footprint while traveling. Through our partnership with Skyscanner, travelers can also view information about the estimated emissions associated with their flights.

Vegetarian and vegan meal options are available throughout the trip for travelers who choose them.

Throughout the itinerary, we use a variety of local transport methods including walking, tuk tuks and jeeps, giving travelers the opportunity to experience India using a range of local transport options.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

As part of our Small Change initiative, we support a range of environmental and community focused projects. In 2019, we partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant 10 trees for every booking received. Since late 2023, we have also worked with Path Net Zero to measure the emissions associated with our tours and with Veritree to support verified tree planting projects.

To help reduce the use of single use plastic bottles, travelers are encouraged to bring or purchase a reusable water bottle. Water refill stations are available at many of our accommodation stops, and reusable INTRO bottles and tote bags are available as alternatives to disposable plastic bottles and shopping bags.

Before, during and after our trips, travelers receive information and guidance about our Small Change initiative and responsible travel practices. This includes reducing single use plastics, respecting wildlife and local communities, and helping keep destinations clean by disposing of litter responsibly or taking part in informal clean ups where appropriate.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Making a positive difference in the destinations we visit is at the heart of what we do. Small Change is our socially conscious initiative designed to create meaningful positive impact within local communities while encouraging more responsible travel.

Rather than simply observing local culture, our trips are designed to help travelers better understand and respect the traditions, religions and ways of life throughout India. Through genuine cultural exchange and shared experiences, we aim to ensure that travel is mutually beneficial for both our travelers and the communities they visit.

Throughout the trip, we work with local suppliers and guides for our experiences and activities, while prioritising family owned restaurants and independent businesses over international chains wherever possible. Travelers also have opportunities to shop at local markets and support small businesses directly, helping tourism spending remain within local communities. Every one of our trips includes a variety of #smallchanges that travelers experience first hand.

Experiences such as visiting Bishnoi villages, preparing dinner with a local family in Jaipur, exploring bustling local markets and traveling with expert local guides all help foster deeper cultural understanding while directly supporting local people and communities.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Our local guides, or “legends”, are the backbone of our operations and a hugely important part of our family.

They and the wider local teams are provided with extensive training, support and benefits that go beyond fair pay alone. Alongside developing their guiding and leadership skills through our internal training programmes, they also have opportunities to work in different destinations and expand their experience and knowledge.

Several times each year, we offer opportunities for local guides to travel to another one of our destinations or take part in experiences they may not otherwise have access to, courtesy of and with love from us.

Everyone employed by us is paid above minimum wage standards within their respective country or role. We also have a workplace diversity strategy in place that supports equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, nationality or sexual orientation, while ensuring our trips are welcoming and LGBTQ+ friendly.

Where possible, we aim to make our trips accessible for travelers with limited mobility, vision, hearing or cognitive impairments, depending on the nature and extent of individual requirements.
