RENEWABLE ENERGY:
This trip meets our criteria for being part-renewable. That means a minimum of 20% of the nights are booked at accommodations that are powered with renewable energy.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
The itineraries we create are guided by three core pillars: protecting the environment, supporting local communities and enabling our guests to travel responsibly. To ensure this, we partner with a boutique team on the ground that has championed responsible tourism since 1994 and shares our values.Visits to protected areas such as Villarrica National Park and Torres del Paine include park entry fees, which directly fund conservation of landscapes and wildlife. We focus on low-impact activities such as walking tours and hikes, small-group excursions to minimise carbon emissions, reduce the number of vehicles and ease visitor pressure on sensitive sites.
Throughout these experiences, expert local guides share insights on the fragile ecosystems visited and offer practical tips for responsible travel, helping guests understand the local challenges and how to minimise their footprint.
Accommodation is also chosen for it its sustainability credentials where possible:
- Hotel Bidasoa is a family-owned boutique hotel, powered by 95% renewable energy.
- Cabanas del Lago offer eco-cabins, energy efficient design and a strong commitment to sustainable, meaningful tourism.
- Patagonia Camp is a pioneering eco-lodge, designed to seamlessly blend into its environment. Its yurts are built on stilts and removable structures, leaving no permanent footprint. The camp is powered mainly by renewable sources, and operates strict recycling, composting, and water treatment programs.
People
People are at the heart of everything we do. Our local partners train guides annually on safety protocols, service, destinations, and responsible travel, ensuring they are equipped to make a positive impact. Each transfer and excursion include certified local guides, ensuring employment for residents and authentic storytelling rooted in Chilean culture. All the experiences are also carefully curated to provide authentic engagement. For example, while exploring Puerto Varas, this itinerary goes beyond natural landscapes to include visits to traditional community-based Mapuche Huilliche creating income opportunities while preserving ancestral traditions, crafts and cuisine.
The most practical aim is to design itineraries which enable guests to spend money where it stays in Chile. Properties are small boutique or family-owned hotels (Noi Blend, Casa Solaria, Cabanas del Lago, Patagonia camp) to ensure we channel tourism revenue into the local economy, often with a focus on employing local staff and suppliers. Guests are encouraged to dine out locally and explore the town supporting small business.
