Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
We are committed to offering low-impact vacations, which benefit the countries and communities we visit, as well as our travelers and the natural environment. We believe in the transformative power of travel and aim to minimise our ecological footprint by selecting eco-friendly accommodations, encouraging waste reduction, and supporting sustainable transportation options where possible.

This vacation is designed to keep its carbon impact low by including extensive use of local public transport, with buses, cable cars, and shared transfers replacing the need for private car travel wherever possible. Regional passes such as the Hochkönig Card and Gastein Card further support this approach, offering free or discounted access to public transport and lifts, making it easy to explore the mountains in a more sustainable, low-emission way.

Both Hotel Post Post in Bad Hofgastein and Hotel Niederreiter in Maria Alm benefit from their scenic alpine locations, with direct access to extensive walking trails, outdoor activities, and well-connected local transport. Their settings make it easy to enjoy a low-carbon stay, reducing the need for car travel while encouraging slower, nature-focused vacations in the mountains.

Breakfasts at both Hotel Alte Post and Hotel Niederreiter are buffet-style with a range of local and organic produce. For dinner, Hotel Niederreiter offers a four-course menu with a dedicated vegetarian option, while Hotel Post Post serves three-course meals featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients; vegan dishes may be available on request, but it’s best to check in advance.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy in national parks, archaeological sites, monuments, and other sensitive areas like beaches and coastlines; these should be treated with the ultimate respect to maintain them for future generations. Our tour leaders are trained to promote this message to our customers during the vacation.

This tour offers a low-impact way to explore the region, using well-marked trails, gondolas, and local buses to minimise environmental impact, while immersing you in the natural landscapes and beauty of the Hochkönig and Gastein valleys.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY
We provide ample opportunities to explore the local area on foot, where you can shop for local wares and crafts and immerse yourselves in the destination's rich cultural heritage. To enhance your experience, your tour leader will be joined by a knowledgeable, well-qualified English-speaking local guide for the duration of the trip.

This walking tour supports the local economy by linking traditional alpine villages and encouraging stops at family-run mountain huts, where you can enjoy regional food and drink and experience local culture along the way.

We believe that the best things come in small packages and limit our groups to a maximum of 18 persons, plus the tour Leader, so that everyone has the opportunity to mix, share their love of travel, and return home with new friendships. Small groups also have less detrimental local impact, allowing us to use public transport on some days, eat at small local restaurants, which offer a better overall experience.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY
We are committed to responsible and sustainable travel practices that support both the local environment and surrounding communities. By selecting environmentally conscious accommodation, encouraging reduced waste, and prioritising sustainable transport where possible, we aim to minimise our footprint. Through respectful engagement and conscious travel choices, we strive to protect natural landscapes while delivering enriching and memorable experiences.

Our walking tours are also designed to immerse participants in the local culture, fostering meaningful connections with the communities we visit. We strive to leave a positive impact by engaging in responsible tourism activities, respecting local customs, and contributing to the preservation of natural landscapes. Through our commitment to responsible travel, we aim to create enriching experiences for our guests while actively contributing to the conservation of the destinations we explore.
