CARBON REDUCTION

We aim to minimise our carbon footprint by keeping experiences locally based, avoiding internal flights, encouraging longer stays, using shared transfers and planning routes efficiently. Guests are also encouraged to make lower-impact travel choices before and during their expedition.

Food is sourced locally wherever possible, supporting local producers and reducing food miles. Seasonal and vegetarian options are available, and we encourage partners to minimise food waste.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We are committed to nature-positive travel that supports the protection and recovery of marine ecosystems in the Mexican Caribbean. We work with locally owned accommodation and activity partners that prioritise waste reduction, reduced single-use plastics, efficient water use and minimal habitat disturbance. We also rotate reef sites to reduce pressure on sensitive marine areas.

Wildlife protection is central to every expedition. Guests receive mandatory briefings on responsible wildlife interaction, reef-safe practices and minimising disturbance, with these principles reinforced throughout each experience. Activities are led by experienced marine biologists, local scientists and trained nature guides who provide science-based interpretation.

Our expeditions also contribute directly to conservation and research. We collaborate with regional researchers, including whale shark researcher Rafael de la Parra, support Great Hammerhead research through Proyecto Mókaran, and contribute to Reef Rescue School, which provides marine conservation education for local children.

Through responsible wildlife practices, local partnerships, scientific research and conservation education, our expeditions aim to leave a positive legacy for both the marine environment and the communities that depend upon it.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

Our expeditions follow a community-based tourism model, working with locally owned businesses, Maya communities, Indigenous cooperatives, local guides, boat operators and conservation organisations. We prioritise local suppliers and independent accommodation so that tourism income stays within the destination.
Visitors have opportunities to learn directly from local communities and support community-led initiatives, while a proportion of our tourism activities contributes to local marine conservation, education and research. We aim to ensure that local people are active participants in tourism and benefit directly from it.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

We prioritise employment and partnerships with people from Mexico and, wherever possible, from the communities where our expeditions operate. We particularly seek opportunities to work with Maya and Indigenous communities, women and locally run enterprises, supporting income generation through guiding, education, conservation, transport and other tourism services.
We are committed to fair employment practices and paying staff in accordance with Mexican wage requirements. We provide an inclusive environment regardless of gender, nationality, ethnicity or sexual orientation, and our expeditions are LGBTQ+ friendly.
We also aim to make our experiences accessible to people with different abilities. For participants who are hard of hearing, we can provide clear written and visual communication and discuss individual requirements in advance to ensure activities are safe and accessible.
Our goal is to create tourism that strengthens local livelihoods while connecting visitors with the people, culture and marine environment of the Mexican Caribbean.
