Accommodation & meals:
On this trip we visit a couple of small businesses run by community members. They might include a small ‘chicheria’ where a local beer is made using locally grown purple corn, a pottery workshop and a chocolate making demonstration.

In Lake Titicaca travelers will stay overnight in the community of Llachon with a local family in their home. Here passengers will enjoy 3 meals cooked by the family. Ingredients used for the lunch are locally produced and sourced goods where possible. The opportunity to stay at a local family’s house is a truly amazing experience, raw and wonderful. Travelers in the past really got to interact with the family by playing games, helping cook meals and just feeling part of the community, even if it’s only for a short while.

For all non-included meals leaders will generally recommend restaurants that are making a difference to the local community. Often these restaurants in particular will donate a percentage of the bill to the tour operator’s foundation which supports around 50 global projects and has raised just shy of £3 million.

People

Community:
Normally run with minimal power, no hot water this community based lodge in the Amazon Jungle is a real lodge. There’s no point traveling if you can’t experience something different.

This small group tour has a maximum of 16 participants, meaning that we have a low impact on the communities we visit and are able to ensure that we do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. The small number also allows us to stay in a unique, family-run hotel that cannot benefit from coach tours and other mass tourism due to its limited size.
