Walking vacations in India are a revelation for many people. People who are new to India tend to associate the country with coast, culture or cuisine. ...
Ladakh, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, is one of those places where it is almost easier to tell you what isn’t there, in order to highlight...
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Ladakh in itself had been cut-off from the rest of the world for centuries until 1974 when the roads were built through the high Himalayan passes and first western tourists started getting in. Environmentally it is very sensitive area, due to the altitude and topography the flora and fauna isn't in abundance but it is still it’s got some of the very rare species like snow leopards, Himalayan marmots, and Blue sheep, plenty of beautiful valleys in the Nubra all along the Shyok Rivers and some of the serene glaciers. On our trips every effort is made to ensure that we take into consideration minimum impact on the area. Starting with low number of participants helps us ease our impact on the trails as this route was used for commuting by local nomads long before the roads were built.
Our local staff and guides are trained to brief clients on the possibilities of impact on the local environment. We tend to avoid use of plastic bottled mineral waters where possible in Leh town we advise clients to use pressurised filtered water and get their bottles to fill in, during the trek we get the boiled water for them daily and it’s easy to fill in the water bottles.
Most of the camping refuse is collected at the end of each day and carried away to the end point to be disposed of in the nearby town. Simple means of kitchen facilities ensures minimalist fumes are generated.
People
One of our main ethos as an organisation is to support the local community as we believe they are the main stakeholders in every vacation we run. The best way we have realised over the years is to get them involved in organising the vacations. This acts as a bridge between the travelers and the locals which indeed enriches the vacation experience as the locals are the best brand ambassadors for the region. On this trip we will be using plenty of local accommodations mostly family run offering decent levels of comfort, all our staff is from the local areas trained very well to look after the clients. This empowers them to get a good means of employment along-with and getting independent while the tourism lasts.
We strongly are against mass tourism and this vacation is designed by one of our local guides in Ladakh run and optimised over the years to ensure our way of small group, no whistle stop tours.
