CARBON REDUCTION

Human-powered activities

The itinerary includes several opportunities for walking and hiking, including walks around Lake Dayan, hikes in the Khuites Valley, a mountain hike overlooking Khoton and Khurgan Lakes, and a 3-4 hour hike to Baga Turgen Waterfall. Optional wildlife-spotting hikes are also included. These activities enable visitors to experience the destination without motorised transport.

Accommodation with relatively low infrastructure requirements

Much of the itinerary is spent in traditional ger camps and ger homestays. These seasonal structures use simple facilities, including compost toilets in some locations, and generally require less permanent infrastructure than conventional hotel developments.

Traveler guidance to reduce environmental impacts

Guests are encouraged to travel with refillable filtered water bottles.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Visits to important natural environments

The itinerary includes time in the Altai Mountains region, Lake Dayan, Khoton and Khurgan Lakes, the Khuites Valley and wildlife habitats where Argali sheep may be observed. These visits provide opportunities to experience Mongolia's natural landscapes while supporting tourism in remote regions.

Supporting traditional eagle-hunting communities

Guests stay with local Kazakh eagle-hunting families and learn about traditional cultural practices involving golden eagles. This experience is presented as a cultural activity supporting local communities and traditional knowledge.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Locally owned accommodation and community-based stays

A significant proportion of the itinerary uses locally operated ger homestays and seasonal ger camps rather than international hotel chains. Travelers stay with a local Kazakh eagle-hunting family near Lake Dayan and spend multiple nights in locally managed wilderness and festival camps.

Supporting local communities and small businesses

The tour uses local ground handlers, Mongolian guides and drivers, family-run restaurants and local markets. Accommodation, meals and supplies are sourced locally wherever possible, helping tourism expenditure remain within western Mongolian communities.

Direct cultural exchange and local income generation

Travelers visit and stay with nomadic Kazakh families, sharing meals and learning about traditional livelihoods, including eagle hunting and livestock herding. These experiences support host families and help create income opportunities in remote regions with limited economic alternatives.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Supporting minority and indigenous cultural communities

A key element of the itinerary is spending time with Kazakh eagle-hunting families in western Mongolia. Tourism activities are designed to support these communities economically while helping preserve traditional cultural practices and knowledge.
