CARBON REDUCTIONInternational guests need at least one flight to reach our area. There are a few direct flights available, so we recommend booking a direct flight to Helsinki, from where a connection is necessary. Alternatively, it is also possible to take a train from Helsinki, which we highly recommend instead of flying, and we are happy to help find the best connections.
Before the tour, our clients receive “10 sustainability tips for your vacation”, which include suggestions on how to make their trip more sustainable both before and during the tour. For example, instead of buying equipment or clothing that is not needed in daily life, we recommend borrowing, renting, or buying second-hand.
On site, each accommodation provides an information book with guidelines for travelers on topics such as regenerative tourism, recycling, Everyman’s Rights, and responsible ways to enjoy nature. We also provide clear recycling and waste-sorting instructions to help clients act responsibly. One of the cottages available on this tour, Villa Swan, features a solar energy system.
Meals are delivered to the cottages and are provided by a local restaurant and catering service. Vegetarian and pescatarian options are available. Vegan options are limited but can be arranged. For clients choosing the fine dining option (supplement), meals are prepared using local ingredients whenever possible, such as locally produced meat, fish, grains, and mushrooms and berries gathered from the surrounding forest.
In Finland, tap water is fresh and drinkable, so it is not necessary to purchase bottled water. We ask our clients to bring a reusable water bottle or thermos, which can be filled in the morning for excursions.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
In 2022, we reached Travelife Partner status for the first time, and in January 2025 it was extended for another two years. The award recognizes our efforts regarding sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. To receive Travelife Partner level we had to comply with more than 100 criteria, related to office management, product range, international business partners and customer information.
No formal inspections of the accommodations are done. However, cottage owners are provided with information and guidance on regenerative tourism: not only try to minimize environmental impact, but aim to enhance the well-being of the local area and its nature. To reduce the laundry bed linen and towels won't be changed during the week and there is no cleaning during the vacation.
Clients can choose an optional activity to build birdhouses or insect hotels, which are placed in the immediate vicinity of the cabin.
All guides hold official guide qualifications and are either local or from nearby communities. Some have additional specializations, for example in nature, the Rokua Geopark area or working with children.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYOur tours take place in sparsely populated areas, where many people, especially young adults, are forced to move away due to limited job opportunities. By bringing visitors and organizing tours, we contribute to the well-being of the local community. Our company does not own any hotels, restaurants, or transportation vehicles; instead, we purchase all services from local suppliers, all of which are small businesses. On this tour, local staff are employed in all operations, including cottage cleaning, snow removal, guiding, catering services, and husky safaris. Guests are provided with tips about local businesses and are encouraged to support them during their stay.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We ensure that our partner companies and staff get paid fairly. We are committed to the equal treatment of all people, regardless of nationality, religion, language, sexual orientation or any other personal reasons.
Most of our tours are activity-focused vacations and may not be suitable for people with reduced mobility. Upon request, we can tailor tours for groups with special needs, provided we have the necessary expertise. This tour can also be adapted to meet specific requirements upon request.
