1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Wildlife - birds, dolphins, turtles, snakes, Jesus lizard.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

At altitude, acclimatise. In sea, be careful of sting rays - take copies of documents.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes-very much. A proportion of money goes directly to conservation. Also, much of my trip was eco tourist focused and I ate and spent locally.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Brilliant - an unexpected bonus was the social democratic ideas in Ecuador-they can teach us a lot. Ecuador is incredibly diverse, people genuinely interested, especially when "the only Gringo on the Bus!" and the operator is very efficient.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet and people

We operate this trip in conjunction with an ecologically aware tour operator in Ecuador.

Our staff are local with an excellent knowledge of the area. Our guides hold informal talks to inform about and discuss aspects of local life. This helps understanding of the area and appreciation of the people who live there. We support the local economy by using local transport on this trip and always using locally owned and run accommodation and restaurants.

When trekking we buy fresh local produce. In preference we choose local over imported goods, encouraging the use of Andean products in our cooking. On our treks we minimize waste by using products with minimum packaging, leaving no litter and keeping all water sources clean, leaving camp-sites cleaner than we find them. Rubbish is carried out.

We support the Tourism Concern Porters Policy in Peru and are involved with the social project Huchuy Yachaq. We are happy to distribute your donations of much needed warm clothes and shoes to children through this organization - please contact us for details of how you can help. Volunteers are welcome to work on the project.

We are also now supporting the UK registered chairty Amantani. As this charity is very much in keeping with our ethos of small scale, targetted help which is educational & sustainabale. HuchuyYachaq is the other main Peruvian charity we support by paying a for a full time teacher. A % of all our income goes to support those projects.
