1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

All of it! Our safaris were incredibly special (and we felt our guides acted
responsibly around the animals and were sensitive to their behaviours). Zanzibar has some of the most beautiful beaches I have seen.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Take a lot of cash. It felt right to tip and recognise the excellent and enthusiastic
service we received, and sometimes people need a bit of help.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think it benefited local employment through tourist transport and accommodation. As far as it can go I hope our money is spent on conservation efforts - but that is down to the government of Tanzania.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Absolutely five stars! Everything worked beautifully - even when flights changed at short notice. We felt very looked after.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Our ground handlers are partners with Eco Tourism Kenya, an organization which promotes responsible tourism practices within the industry.

If one of our tours is labelled an eco-tour that means it only visits eco certified lodges.

The lodges and accommodation used on this itinerary are committed to the long-term conservation of the environment and wildlife in Tanzania. Our local agents are very active in supporting local schools and different environmental projects, managing donations from guests and contributing to the management of school projects. The camp owners work closely with the local communities in order to help improve the living conditions of the local people.

From migratory birds to iconic African cats and endangered rhinos, critical species are being threatened by increasing pressures such as population growth, industrialization, insufficient management, improper protection, global climate change and more. We seek to work with local stakeholders to defend, protect and conserve some of the world’s most imperiled species. Join us today in supporting work that keeps the unique wildlife of Africa thriving.

People

The company we use own all the camps and lodges on this particular tour. The have trained and employed local people from surrounding villages and tribes to work in camp/lodges.

Each of the Elewana Collection lodges and camps of which the Arusha Coffee Lodge is one, works closely with local community projects, and seek wherever possible to employ and train from the local communities themselves. More details of each of the camps and lodges specific endeavours can be found on their respective web sites.

Supporting a variety of causes including several local orphanages, Elewana also recognises the desire of its guests to actively participate in helping these charities and therefore provide a unique opportunity for all those staying at the Arusha Coffee Lodge to donate, doing so safe in the knowledge that the money given goes straight to where it is needed, with no third parties involved.
Elewana will continue to strive toward creating harmony and understanding with all, and to build stronger bridges between each and every community with which it works.

At Asilia Lodges, they strive to improve livelihoods in various ways to strengthen communities, safeguard the natural world, and create successful conservation economies that lead to a sustainable and healthy ecosystem that supports people and wildlife. All people should have access to every opportunity to help themselves reach their full potential. Based on this belief, we support programs and activities that benefit education at all levels. More broadly, we work within a framework that puts an emphasis on collaboration to ensure a comprehensive area approach where long-term employment opportunities are being developed for individuals from communities living in and around the areas where we work. Join us today to support communities and education within and around the areas we operate in.
Please refer to the Asilia website for detailed information on the communities and charities they support in Africa.
