Planet
We have always been about balancing profit and purpose, and in 2018 this commitment was made official when we became a certified B Corp. This means we’re more dedicated and accountable than ever, to being better – in the ways that matter. This trip is run by our local Greek operator who shares our commitment to responsible travel, from waste and water management to ensuring our travelers are leaving the lightest footprint possible. Our Greek team are trained on our global responsible travel policies and practices.
We provide training to trip leaders on water consumption best practices and how to encourage their travelers to follow these principles too. While tap water may not be safe to drink everywhere in Greece,we still encourage travelers to bring their own reusable water bottles. Our leaders will suggest and facilitate the purchase of larger containers of water for the group so that travelers can refill their reusable water bottles from this source. This reduces the number of single-use plastic water bottles disposed of by our travelers. We continue to work with local suppliers on water management initiatives. For example, encouraging hotel owners to provide water refill stations, and in-room signage requesting short showers, repeated towel use and turning taps off.
People
The best folk to show you the heart of a destination are the ones that live there, which is why we work exclusively with local leaders. Our leaders are not only travel experts, they’re teachers, travel gurus and enthusiastic purveyors of grassroots experiences. They’ll just as easily steer you through the laneways of a city as help you strike up a conversation with the locals – and all with a smile. On this trip around the mainland of Greece, travelers will also be joined by local guides in several places. In each location these guides will bring to life the destination, its history and what makes it special. That might be the ancient history of the Acropolis, hiking to the monastery of Meteora, or sharing coffee with monks of Prodromos.
Our trips maximize the opportunity for travelers to engage meaningfully with local culture and communities. Many experiences on our trips also support traditional cultural practices – whether artisanal, culinary or otherwise. In turn, this helps to sustain and preserve these traditional practices so that future generations may continue to learn, enjoy and benefit from them. This trip includes a visit to a family beekeeping and honey business in Itea. Travelers will learn about honey production, visit the hives, and enjoy plenty of honey sampling with our experienced hosts.
