Travel guides
There's a fascinating history attached to wildlife tourism in India, of which tiger spotting and forest safarai is just part.
Physically remote and often overlooked, explore the eight states that make up this area.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION:We are committed to responsible travel, and a central part of that commitment is our pioneering carbon scoring system – the first of its kind. This innovative tool allows us to measure the environmental impact of every bespoke trip we design. By collaborating closely with our suppliers through a detailed carbon-scoring survey, we gain clear insights into what’s working well and identify opportunities for improvement.
There is minimal flying within this trip, with the majority of transport between locations being via vehicles.
Locally sourced food and vegetarian food available throughout.
ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE:
Kaziranga National Park, in Assam, has one of India’s most successful wildlife conservation initiatives, growing the population of the endangered Greater one-horned rhinoceros. It was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006, and it’s also possible to see migratory species from Central Asia during your visit.
The team here work hard to maintain the successes of endangered or vulnerable species. They initiated monitoring of climate change impacts on rhino health and habitats, and integrated conservation plans for the national park. They have also strengthened wildlife forensic capabilities in order to improve the investigations into wildlife crimes.
People
LOCAL ECONOMY:We support the local economy through the opportunity to visit a range of local markets and cultural tours; including meeting the Khasi people of Smit, where you can learn more about the tribal culture, and visiting the Bara Bazaar in Shillong, where you can purchase hand-made wares and support the owners of small businesses. In Majuli Island, there are small-scale artisans who make pottery and masks made from clay or bamboo.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY:
We support destinations that use local guides for tours, including in the city of Kolkata for the interesting ‘confluence of cultures’ walking tour, an evening river cruise on a tributary of the river Ganges, and in Kaziranga National Park, where you will have the assistance of an expert naturalist guide.
In Dibrugarh, we support the Mancotta Chang Bungalow, a heritage hotel that was once a tea planter’s house. Nearby, you can explore tea gardens, local markets, and we especially recommend visiting Haaj-Par, a weaving center which employs local women.
Tripura Castle Hotel in Shillong provides employment opportunities for local people in the hospitality sector.
Kaziranga National Park actively encourages the education of local communities in relation to rhino conservation, fostering further awareness and stewardship of wildlife in the area. It also organizes regular exposure visits and training programmes for forest managers and staff from rhino range countries.
