Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Our Croatia trip is designed to be enjoyed by foot wherever possible, both to reduce the environmental impact but also as a way to take advantage of the historic setup of the medieval cities, where cobblestone streets and stone plazas have cleared of vehicles and restored to their full grandeur. Leisure time can be spent exploring further by bicycle, kayak or using public transportation with the locals, including water taxis and ferries.

In addition to limiting our physical imprint from travel, we also look to work with our local supplier to find the most suitable experiences which take sustainable tourism practices into account. We are constantly working to find ways to limit disposable goods used during our trips, be it refillable water bottles, avoiding single serving utensils and plastic bags of any kind. We also promote working with organic food producers who avoid chemicals when possible and prefer hand farmed products to machine run operations. By promoting and encouraging these businesses we hope to reward them for their conscientious environmental choices.

People

We are always keeping in mind the importance of supporting the local communities for all the destinations we offer. In a general sense, we focus on finding locally owned, environmentally, socially responsible suppliers and hotels wherever possible.

For Croatia we’ve included a stop at a local family’s farm in the Konavle Valley for a traditional peka meal. In addition to seeing their non-industrial farm setup, you’ll be indulging in a meal that also protects the unique heritage found in this part of Europe.

Outside Split, you’ll witness another source of cultural pride with a cooking demonstration of soparnik, a flat bread dish that predates the pizza. There are very specific processes and ingredients which must be used for the dish to qualify as a soparnik, and our local guide is one of few who still prepares the meal in this traditional way.

Your stop at the Vizzulin winery will again take you into a family run business, where love of the land and exceptional quality takes priority over volume and yield. Meeting the family and tasting their wines and foods you’ll understand their desire to keep things on a local scale.

Throughout the trip we’ll also provide recommendations for restaurants, shops and activities where we know your business is providing sustainable income for the communities you’re visiting.
