Planet
Environment:This tour travels through remote natural regions of Finland and we are passionate in maintaining their pristine nature. We work with the policy of ‘take nothing but memories, Leave nothing but footprints’.
In other words, we ensure that we as a company leave these areas as we find them and as such we operate a strict no litter policies, taking all refuse to either be recycled or properly disposed of in nearby towns.
On this adventure we follow tracks carefully so as not to degrade the landscape, while enjoying the stunning views and local culture.
We stay at locally-owned ecolodges to benefit the local people, and work closely with our guides and partners in Finland to ensure we contribute towards the development of environmentally sensitive tourism within this region.
Finally, we are very proud to have partnered with Water-To-Go, specialists in personal and expedition water purification, instantly, and on-demand. Their unique, 350L water bottles incorporate advanced filtration technology to convert even the dirtiest water to drinking water as you fill up.
Being able to produce safe drinking water from sources off the beaten track, of sometimes dubious quality, offers incredible benefits to our adventure travelers and eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles. We subsidise this product to make it more accessible to you.
People
We only use Finnish guides on this adventure as they are most in touch with the local history and culture, and we wish to ensure the majority from the income generated by tourism remains in the local communities, which in turn is incentive to conserve the local environments and animal life.We visit The Arctic Ceramic Center, which is the northernmost ceramic center in the world. The large workspace with stunning views has convinced many professionals and enthusiasts to visit and donate to help upkeep this important cultural heritage. It can be hard to find a more inspiring environment for making ceramics.
On Day four we visit a local family's Reindeer Farm on snowshoes or ski, or by car if you prefer (2 km), for about four and a half hours. You may feed Rudolph and take all the pictures you like. Chat with the reindeer herder Miikka about his life and job in the arctic nature. His family runs a cow farm, owns forest, and the mother Tiina produces regional organic natural cosmetics and wellbeing products.
Lunch is around the bonfire at the farm, including homemade and local food, including delicious meat and hot drinks. It is a wonderful way to truly bridge the gap with the local people, contribute to their income and learn about their culture.
