In Uganda, water connections are limited especially in the rural areas where the lodges are located. We encourage our clients to use water sparingly following the house keeping guidelines at the lodges. Often they are encouraged to reuse their towels for at least 2 days or more instead of washing them daily.

We include a visit to the communities adjacent to the parks to ensure they benefit directly and therefore join in conservation. Bigodi village walk near Kibale national park was started by young people to protect their environment and also earn directly from tourism.

In Rwanda, the clients visit the gorilla guardians village which is a community adjacent to the parks to ensure they benefit directly and therefore join in conservation. Many of the members are former poachers who now use their time to share their experiences and take the anti-poaching gospel in the community.

We minimize trash on our safaris by encouraging travelers to reuse different materials. We provide travelers with reusable water bottles which they get to refill hence ensuring minimum plastic trash on our tours. Whatever rubbish generated while on safari must be retained in the car and safely disposed of by the driver guide on arrival at the lodge.

People

Our naturalist guides are locals in the countries we work in. And also where applicable, they get a site guide in the different areas they take the guests. This helps with spreading the tourism dollar to many more people on the value chain in the communities we visit. You will experience this in Bigodi village and the gorilla guardians village.

We respect the local cultures of the communities we visit, we are not intrusive in our approach. We ask locals to let us know what is comfortable for them as far as bringing tourists into their villages, homes etc. We allow them to make a trail for an experience they are comfortable with. We encourage you to interact with the locals when on these safaris.

We encourage our clients to purchase locally made handcrafts and other products as a way of supporting the local communities directly. We prefer these are purchased while on a community walk and not in the hotel curio shops.

In addition to the above, we encourage clients to consider eating at local restaurants on parts of the trip especially when transferring from one park to another. The local restaurants puts money directly into the local economy and also encourages them to grow and take their small business seriously.
